UML Chairman Khanal leaving for China

KATHMANDU, APR 27 - CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal is leaving for China leading a 20-member delegation on May 7 upon the invitation from the Communist Party of China .
This is his second visit to the country after People's Movement in 2006. He last visited China in April 2009.
Some party leaders fear Khanal's eight-day visit ahead of the party's general convention on June 7 could adversely affect the convention. Party's senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and parliamentary party leader KP Sharma Oli have announced their candidacy for the party's top post, while Khanal has not expressed his desire to continue the term. Khanal, however, said he would not decline the call if senior leaders unanimously ask him to lead the party.
UML leader Rajan Bhattarai, however, says Khanal's visit would not affect the convention at all. "The political document will be cleared before he leaves for China so leaders will continue to discuss on it and the sub-committees are already there for preparation," said Bhattarai.
